Alcove – Bartenders & Barbacks

Alcove, a bustling neighborhood restaurant that highlights coastal New England cuisine and an award-winning beverage program, is looking for Bar Staff to join their expanding team. Nestled next to the Zakim Bridge and steps away from the TD Garden and North Station, they are entering their third year as a destination in the West End, with a large four-season waterfront patio, an award-winning beverage program.

Bartenders at Alcove are consummate hospitality professionals. With an intimate knowledge of wine, beer, cocktails, and spirits, they are deft at being able to pair a guest’s meal with an appropriate beverage. Whether behind the bar, in the dining room, or on the patio, a bartender at Alcove brings knowledge and grace to the stage that is the restaurant. Bartenders at Alcove are responsible for curating the guest experience at Alcove in conjunction with management to create unique experiences for guests. They are currently hiring for two positions on the bar, both bartenders and bar stewards. Bartenders are the most senior and knowledgeable, with cocktail creation as an important aspect of their contribution to the restaurant. Bar stewards are experienced restaurant servers who may have had minimal or no training on a craft cocktail bar and are looking to learn. Education is an important part of their bar program, and Alcove as a whole! Senior bartenders regularly train the service staff on beverage, and bar stewards are continually trained, by both the bar’s own training system, and through daily in-depth staff briefings on all aspects of hospitality and product knowledge.

For bartenders, 2 years of bartending experience is required. Bar stewards must have three years of cumulative service experience, as either a bartender or lead server. Both positions require full-time availability.

They are also seeking Barbacks. A barback must quickly respond to the needs of the restaurant and the bar staff, ensuring that the bar is stocked with glassware, garnishes and product at all times to best serve guests in an efficient manner. Ideal applicants are cool under pressure, quick moving and graceful. Responsibilities include keeping the bar fully stocked with product at all times (changing kegs, stocking wine and spirits, and refilling juices and syrups in service), replenishing pars, performing opening and closing sidework, and some direct guest interaction. Applicants must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 100 pounds. Experience is preferred, but not necessary – they are willing to train the right candidate.

Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days.

Employment Type(s): Full-time, Part-time
