Darling – Executive Chef

A new cocktail bar opening later this year is seeking an Executive Chef to join their team.

With a focus on hyper seasonal and local ingredients, Darling will serve inspired cocktails alongside Dim Sum influenced small plates.  We are excited to speak with like-minded individuals who are passionate about food, beverage, and hospitality, and are interested in the prospect of being part of a small but mighty team, owned and operated by veterans of the Boston restaurant community.

While experience in Asian cuisine is preferred, we are interested in speaking with any candidates who are highly ambitious and motivated by the prospect of building something from the ground up.  In addition to competitive pay and a dedicated focus on creating work and life balance for all employees, there is significant opportunity to grow into a larger role within our company.

Interested candidates should be prepared to oversee the following responsibilities:

  • Lead in the hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and oversight of all back of house staff members.
  • Establish and maintain back of house standards including mise en place, technique, plating and recipe execution.
  • Assist with initial kitchen design and buildout and purchasing of equipment and small wares.
  • Provide continuing education for front and back of house team.
  • Lead by example – treat others with kindness and respect.
  • Contribute to menu changes and daily specials with consideration to creativity, concept and cost.
  • Create daily prep lists, recipes, and standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving, inventory management and cost control.
  • Be involved in prep, line cooking, and expo.
  • Complete weekly inventory reports.
  • Communicate with front of house management team.
  • Follow all necessary regulations and guidelines regarding food handling and sanitation.
  • Review weekly P&Ls and utilize information to make informed decisions regarding purchasing, menu development, and staffing.
  • Work with ownership to hit all budget and sales goals.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years in a kitchen management role.
  • Experience with Asian cuisine preferred.
  • Night and weekend availability.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of culinary, safety, and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Prior experience opening a full service restaurant is preferred.
