Alden & Harlow – Head Pastry Cook

Alden & Harlow is a busy, ever-changing, growing, and evolving restaurant.

Pastry Cooks work with precision, organization and are passionate about food. As part of a team, Pastry Cooks are responsible for daily care of the kitchen spaces. Pastry Cooks support all areas of the kitchen, including prep, line operations, and pastry dish execution with all health and sanitation guidelines in mind.

We are looking for a Head Pastry Cook who is excited about the culinary direction and passion for food, created by Chef / Owner Michael Scelfo. Our perspective on food is adaptable and fluid yet rooted in a desire to create memorable experiences through food, generating repeat business.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Chef de Cuisine and Owner in the development of the Pastry Program
  • Assist with all aspects of the pastry station, ensuring proper plating and execution for both AM and PM shifts
  • Assist with pastry, bakery, dessert program, and custom cakes for private events
  • Work within a positive, productive work environment for all staff
  • Treat food with passion, integrity, and thoughtfulness
  • Manage time effectively and meet all job responsibilities
  • Follow all established policies and procedures, including those for product, health, safety, and sanitation
  • Demonstrate positivity, enthusiasm, and energy for both kitchen operations and hospitality
  • Ensure first-in first-out food rotation to help minimize food waste and ensure all produce in dry goods/walk-in areas are labeled, organized, and stored appropriately
  • Assist in maintaining organization in different parts of the kitchen including Line Cook stations, walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and dry goods storage areas
  • Ensure food is being stored according to ServSafe standards for organization and at correct temperatures
  • Cook or prepare food for guests as requested, including special requests, making sure to note allergens and communicating with kitchen and wait staff to accommodate other special requests
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work space
  • Participate in the cleaning of kitchen areas including work station, prep area, and walk-in, as necessary, and monitor the cleanliness to ensure compliance with local health regulations
  • Ensure all food items are stored safely according to food-safety guidelines

Job Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of baking techniques, ingredient management, and pastry equipment.
  • 2-5 years of professional pastry/baking experience.
  • Formal culinary education is preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working in both hot and cold work environments
  • Strong communication skills, team management abilities, and the capacity to work under pressure
  • Must be comfortable standing/walking for 8 hours, and be able to bend, push, pull, and/or lift 30 lbs
Employment Type(s): Full-time, Part-time
Base Pay: $20-25/hour
