Confidential – Chef/Operating Partner

Chef / Operating Partner
Confidential Boston Restaurant Project

An experienced hospitality operator is developing an independent neighborhood restaurant and bar in one of Boston’s neighborhoods. We are looking for an accomplished chef to help shape the restaurant from the ground up and ultimately become a long-term operating partner in the business.

Specific details about the name, location, and concept will be shared with qualified candidates at the appropriate stage of the process.

The Person We’re Looking For
You have worked in multiple strong kitchens, ideally across different cuisines and styles of service, and have taken on progressively greater responsibility throughout your career. You have developed the judgment and perspective that come from learning under different chefs and adapting to different environments.

You are creative, but you understand that creativity must coexist with consistency, organization, cost control, and genuine hospitality. You care as much about developing people and building a healthy kitchen culture as you do about writing a great menu.

Just as importantly, you are emotionally mature, self-aware, and steady under pressure. You communicate directly and respectfully, take responsibility when something goes wrong, and do not manage through fear, volatility, or ego.

What You’ll Help Lead

  • Developing the restaurant’s culinary identity and opening menu
  • Recipe development, testing, costing, and documentation
  • Kitchen design, equipment selection, and opening systems
  • Recruiting, training, and developing the back-of-house team
  • Establishing prep, purchasing, inventory, and food safety systems
  • Maintaining consistent food quality and thoughtful presentation
  • Managing food and labor costs without compromising the guest experience
  • Building a respectful, organized, and sustainable kitchen culture
  • Collaborating closely on the relationship between food, beverage, service, and the overall business

The Right Candidate Will Have

  • Substantial professional cooking experience in several respected kitchens
  • Progressively responsible leadership experience, ideally at the sous chef, chef de cuisine, or executive chef level
  • Experience with multiple cuisines, techniques, and restaurant formats
  • Strong menu development and recipe costing skills
  • A record of developing cooks and building effective teams
  • Excellent organization, communication, and follow-through
  • Financial literacy and an understanding of how kitchen decisions affect the entire restaurant
  • A collaborative leadership style and willingness to receive feedback
  • Outstanding professional references
  • A strong work ethic, sound judgment, and high personal standards
  • A genuine interest in building a restaurant for the long term, not simply taking the next chef job

Partnership Opportunity
This is intended to become a genuine operating partner role for the right person. The structure may include competitive compensation together with a negotiated profit-sharing and/or ownership opportunity based on experience, contribution, responsibilities, and long-term commitment.

The partnership component will be developed thoughtfully and transparently. We are looking for someone who wants to help build the restaurant, assume meaningful responsibility for its success, and grow with the business over time.
