About MIDA:

MIDA, by Chef Douglass Williams, debuted its South End location in November 2016 with the sole focus of becoming a great Italian neighborhood restaurant. The menu revolves around playful interpretations of classic regional Italian cuisine. About the Role:

At MIDA, we want to create hospitality and generosity for ourselves so we can share it with our guests and ultimately, the larger community. The position of Assistant General Manager at MIDA requires the ability to oversee all daily operations, in partnership with the General Manager, and coach hourly employees to work and develop within the MIDA standards for service and hospitality. Precision, patience, resourcefulness, and a passion for, and knowledge of good food and drink are essential elements to succeeding in this role.

Core Strategic Focus: Understand and guide restaurant operations using weekly financial information, guest experience as your guide and hourly employee teams who are driven to be present and effective in service. Identify, train and coach hourly team members and take a vested interest in the identification, development and performance of servers and bartenders. Contribute to the overall MIDA work environment, emphasizing ambition and inclusivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily restaurant operations, with a comprehensive view of the front of house teams and connectivity to the back of house teams
  • Identify, hire, train, develop and coach staff across Server & Bar teams
  • Write bi-weekly schedules for Server & Bar Teams that accurately reflect MIDA sales, business volume and employee skill set and aptitude
  • Execute MIDA Server and Bar training programs, presenting training materials, training schedule, benchmarks, and active coaching on improvement
  • Develop continuing education for MIDA FOH staff, covering food, beverage, community, and the larger restaurant industry as a whole
  • Execute the MIDA beverage program, completing ordering, inventory and staff education around beer, wine, and cocktails
  • Be guest facing, working in service, to ensuring staff is delivering food, beverages and a style of service that represents the MIDA brand and values
  • Create guest relationships that are meaningful to MIDA operations and encourage repeat business and staff retention
  • Deliver accuracy, efficiency and smart decision making in restaurant set-up, cleanliness, and care of facilities, working with the management team across all departments
  • Contribute to progressive view of the restaurant, making decisions and create initiatives related to sales growth, staffing, restaurant events and neighborhood engagement
  • Facilitate restaurant private events, connecting with event hosts, guests, and all restaurant team members to deliver a great event experience
  • Support and participate in all facets of MIDA’s service, including in-person dining, takeout, delivery, patio service, and private events
  • Respond efficiently and accurately to guest feedback. Communicate with front and back of house staff on guest experiences, both positive and negative; constantly working to improve the flow and efficiency of service
  • Follow all local, state, and federal regulations regarding food handling and sanitation
  • Complete all daily financial reports, cash outs, and both opening and closing management shifts
  • Order dry goods and restaurant supplies in an efficient manner with the goal of minimizing cost and waste

Requirements:

  • Prior restaurant service experience, ideally in Restaurant Management role at MIDA
  • Strong interpersonal & hospitality skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to anticipate guest needs
  • Result-driven, with a proven ability to be a self-starter
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong working knowledge of restaurant service, beverage, safety, and sanitation practices
  • Ability to stand for the entirety of an 8-hour shift, lift and transport items in excess of 50 lbs., kneel, bend over, lift items above head, work in small or cramped spaces
