Family Meal for No Kid Hungry

The holidays are just around the corner and Bambara Kitchen & Bar has a delicious way to give back to the community. The East Cambridge spot has launched a brand new menu item as part of Kimpton’s “Family Meal” campaign to support No Kid Hungry. For those who work in the restaurant industry, the family meal is when staff comes together to share a meal, usually before dinner service. “Kimpton believes that food can be a powerful force for not only human connection, but also change,” says Scott Gingerich, Senior Vice President of Restaurants & Bars at Kimpton.

At Bambara, Executive Sous Chef Rose Pena has created her very own family meal: Rose’s Fried Fish with Rice and Guandules. This dish is made with locally-sourced fish, rice, pigeon peas, peppers, onions, garlic, coconut milk, fried green plantains, and micro cilantro. “Growing up in a Dominican household our go-to dish was always rice. My favorite meal was my mom’s holiday moro de guandules, in which she would add a touch of coconut milk. It was so comforting to enjoy this meal with my family. My dishes are always made with care and love, just like my Mom’s. Moro de guandules with pescado con coco and tostones is hands down my favorite dish to prepare. I often share this dish with my work family as well and everyone always looks forward to it,” says Chef Pena.

A portion of proceeds from this dedicated dish (nearly 60% of cost) will support No Kid Hungry’s effort to hep end childhood hunger. Book your reservation on OpenTable and try Rose’s Fried Fish,  which will be available from November 3rd through December 23, 2022.
