New Chef for the Chilmark Tavern

Paul O’Connell may not be heading back to the Vineyard for the summer (which is good for Chez Henri fans) but the Chilmark Tavern will still be getting some mainland talent to run the show – Paul Peterseil of the Red Rock Bistro has put together this year’s team. The restaurant, which opens for the season on May 6th, will be serving a simple menu of primarily local fare from chef Pete Gwilliam. His culinary predictions for the menu include island grown lamb with greens and heirloom tomatoes; lobster pizza; and jumbo shrimp with Anson Mills grits. Don’t let the fact that Chilmark is a dry town deter you -bring your own booze and staff will be happy to provide glasses, corkscrews, ice, popular mixers and garnishes for a nominal fee; they’ll rent liquor lockers to regulars so guests can leave their favorite bottle behind for future use; they’re even hosting a byob happy hour. They’ll have live music, takeout for “back door diners” and free transport for boaters sailing in to Menemsha Harbor. Plan a pit stop at Chilmark Tavern (for dinner or Sunday brunch) when you plan a trip to the Vineyard. Call 508.645.9400…after May 6th.
