Pick a Saturday or Sunday afternoon during December and head for UpStairs on the Square to enjoy a final afternoon tea before the restaurant closes at the end of the month. Book a table between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00pm; proprietresses Mary Catherine Deibel and Deborah Hughes will be serving towering tea trays of artisanal savories, tea sandwiches, cookies and bite-sized Christmas sweets. They’re even making their Children’s Zebra Tea, a family-friendly extravaganza of culinary delights available on both days so bring the little ones for marzipan chocolate mice, and PB&J tea sandwiches (sans crusts, of course), hot cocoa, black and white brownies and lots of holiday cookies. Bring a new stuffed animal and it will be donated to Children’s Hospital Boston come Christmas. Afternoon tea at UpStairs costs $30 for adults and $15 for kids.
