Sweater Weather Bevvies

Sure, there may still be some summery sunny days ahead but it’s finally starting to feel – and taste! – like fall. Just take a peek at the cocktail lists at your go-to spots. There’s no shortage of pumpkin spice to be had if that’s your thing (no judgment!) but there are plenty of other not-to-be-missed seasonal flavors (think: cranberry, honey, sage, apple and pear) popping up in lots of inventive creations from local drink-makers. Scroll through the round up below, grab a sweater (and maybe a scarf) and get going.

Alcove – Leaf Peeper

Check out the seasonal additions to the drink list at Alcove including the Leaf Peeper, a combination of Alcove’s own rum blend, aperol, cardamom and lime. You can skip the trip north for foliage viewing and just get over to the West End spot and post up on their patio to soak up some fresh air and fall vibes while you sip (peep the whole list here).

The Bancroft – Second Bite

It’ll be love at first sip when you try the Second Bite at The Bancroft. Take a spin out to Burlington to try this autumnal concoction, made with Mezcal Rosaluna, apple-panela shrub, sage, Amaro Montenegro, dry cider (from their friends at Pony Shack Cider in Boxborough) and burnt cinnamon.

Bostonia Public House – Hot Toddy

If you got caught in some unexpectedly chilly temps (or maybe you just can’t wait for winter), find your way to the Financial District to warm up with a Hot Toddy at Bostonia Public House. Their version is made with top shelf whiskey (of course), honey and lemon, topped with star anise and garnished with a cinnamon stick. You’ll feel cozy and toasty in no time.

Buttermilk & Bourbon – Falling for You

This lovely little number from the bar team at Buttermilk & Bourbon features not one but two fall fruits that sometimes get overshadowed by the great and glorious pumpkin – apple and pear. Pop into either location (Watertown or Boston) to get smitten with Falling for You, made with Patron, St. George pear, spiced cold-pressed cider and lemon.

Casa Verde – Spice Trader

The team at Casa Verde has rolled out a whole new cocktail list full of fall ingredients and flavors like the Spice Trader, made with sage-infused tequila & S.L.P mezcal, cranberry & mint shrub and spiced citrus syrup. Swing by the Centre Street spot to try them all.

Catalyst – The Harvard Janitor

You can enjoy the flavors of the season and do some good in one fell swoop at Catalyst. Working with their friends at Tito’s Handmade Vodka, they’ll be donating $1 from the sale of The Harvard Janitor to Community Servings as part of their annual Pie in the Sky fundraiser. Pop over to Cambridge to enjoy the autumnal tipple which includes Tito’s Handmade Vodka, ginger syrup, demerara, muddled green apple, cardamom bitters and a pinch of cinnamon.

Davio’s Foxborough – Tailgate Warmer & Honey Crisp-tini

You certainly don’t have to be bound for Gillette (you don’t even have to be a Patriots fan – gasp!) to enjoy the new array of autumnal sippers at Davio’s Foxborough. The talented bar team has updated their list for football season – erm, fall – with goodies like the Tailgate Warmer, made with Keel Vodka, Kahlua Coffee Liqueur, pumpkin and milk; and the Honey Crisp-tini (pictured below) which features The Botanist Islay Dry Gin, honey simple syrup and apple.

Forage – Wabi Sabi

When there’s a chill in the air and you’re ready for a little something to warm you inside and out, get to Forage for a Wabi Sabi from Cocktail Queen Katrina Valenti. The blend of whiskey, Japanese white spruce, apple vermouth, Becherovka and apple cider is served warm so you’ll feel nice and toasty as you raise a glass.

Grafton Street – Pearris Bueller

For their first back-to-school season in their new Harvard Square digs, the team at Grafton Street Pub & Grill has created the perfect fall cocktail. Behold: the Pearris Bueller, made with spiced-pear vodka, hard cider and agave. Pop over to Cambridge on your next study break to try it.

Hunter’s Kitchen & Bar – Whiskey Business

When you call it a day at the office (the WFH one or the other one), head to Hunter’s Kitchen & Bar in South Boston for some comfort food (courtesy of Bobby Flay-beating chef Lambert Givens) and an adult beverage or two. You can scope out the whole list here but be sure not to miss the Whiskey Business – made with Jack Daniel’s, amaretto, cider, lemon and cinnamon it’s a lovely mix of seasonal New England charm and southern hospitality.

The Industry – Harvest Punch

If you’ve been waiting all year for one of those candy red apples covered in sticky, cinnamon-y goodness, the Harvest Punch at The Industry is the cocktail of your sweater weather dreams. Get to Adams Village to try the combination of apple cider, prosecco and Fireball and see if it lives up to your expectations.

Lucie Drink + Dine – Pumpkin Ooyah

If you’re going to do it, here’s the way to do pumpkin spice: get to Lucie Drink + Dine at the Colonnade Hotel. The Back Bay spot is going all in with their Pumpkin Ooyah, made with vanilla vodka, Bailey’s, pumpkin spice simple syrup and Amaretto Disaronno. It comes in a Cinnamon Graham Cracker-rimmed Coupe Glass and it may be the only pumpkin spiced sipper you’ll need all season.

The Merchant – Pumpkin Old Fashioned & Beet the Heat

Bar Manager Kyle Bruneau puts his signature on the drink list at The Merchant by way these autumnal offerings: the Beet the Heat, made with house-made roasted beet purée, house-infused mezcal, triple sec, fresh lime juice and agave with a black lava salt rim, and the Pumpkin Old Fashioned, which incorporates a house-made spiced pumpkin caramel, bourbon and angostura bitters with a flamed cinnamon stick.

Moëca – The Bodega Door

If you haven’t made it to Cambridge to check out Moëca, let The Bodega Door be the extra little nudge you need. Made with rye, cognac, palo cortado, East India Solera, cherry and bitters it’s bound to become a three-season classic and it’s the perfect sip to warm you up as the temps start to dip.

Nosh & Grog – Cafe Grog

If you’d just as soon drink your dessert, plan an outing to Medfield’s Nosh & Grog for the Cafe Grog. Billed as a dessert cocktail, this creation pulls double duty as a sweet apres dinner pick-me-up. It’s buzzy blend combines Galliano espresso, rum, amaro, chocolate bitters, branca and housemade black walnut whipped cream.

Oleana – Oleana-groni & California Dreaming

Aperol spritz season may be over but you can enjoy those bittersweet citrusy flavors by way of the Oleana-groni at Oleana. Their version of the classic negroni is made with Valdespino Manzanilla, Cappelletti Aperitivo and Cocchi Vermouth di Torino. If you’re more in it for the sparkling part of the spritz, go for California Dreaming made with Vermont Vermouth ‘Boreas’, Silk Road Spice Tea simple syrup, lemon and Cava.

Rochambeau – Blind Luck

Add an elegant French twist to your autumnal sipping at Rochambeau, where the new cocktail list includes, among plenty of tantalizing options, Blind Luck. Take a chance (you won’t regret it) on this not-to-be missed combination of plum-infused Evan Williams B.I.B, Lillet Blanc, dry vermouth, chamomile tea and angostura.

State Park – King Harvest

The crew at Kendall Square’s State Park combine some of the season’s most iconic flavors – apple, cranberry, corn – in the King Harvest. Made with roasted corn-infused Tito’s vodka, apple brandy, pomegranate syrup, cranberry juice, angostura bitters, and topped with gamay wine, this delightful beverage also serves a charitable purpose (as if being delicious weren’t enough). $1 from the sale of each one will be donated to Community Servings as part of their Pie in the Sky fundraiser. Pop over before November 30th to do your part over drinks.

Sweet Cheeks – That Crunchy Leaf

Baseball season in Boston has come to a close, but there are plenty of reasons (tasty and boozy reasons) to head to Fenway, including That Crunchy Leaf at Sweet Cheeks Q. Tiffani Faison‘s OG Boylston Street BBQ joint has rolled out this glorious mix of pumpkin cold brew, peanut butter whiskey and allspice dram and topped it with a Bailey’s float. Consider it the perfect fall consolation prize for not making it to the postseason.

Woods Hill Table – Fall Sangria

Your summer go-to gets a seasonal update at Woods Hill Table where they’ve added a Fall Sangria to the cocktail list. Made with red wine, cognac, grilled peach and seasonal spices, it’ll warm you up after a day of apple picking or leaf peeping (or, let’s be real, after a long workday or a busy day of errand-running).
