This is the house that beer built. Whether you’re visiting the original location in Davis Square or its slightly younger sibling in the South End, be prepared to page through an extensive and well-curated list of some of the best beers from around the globe. Both locations are neighborhood joints with a laid-back vibe, hearty home cookin’, and plaid-clad staff who will be just as happy to sling you a brewski as they will to nerd out about hops.

Both locations serve menus stocked full of approachable American pub-style fare, from hearty burgers and flatbreads to creative comfort food, there’s something for everyone, including a wide range of vegan and gluten free options. The menus vary slightly and change seasonally, but stay true to their unfussy, barroom roots for both brunch and dinner service.

Both spaces are built around the bar, with dark woods, exposed brick, and plush leather banquettes you’ll want to sink into. There isn’t a tablecloth in sight, just roll-ups and salt & pepper shakers, putting the focus more on friends and food than fancy decor. To reinforce their love of beer, each location proudly displays a spherical ‘chandelier’ constructed from dozens of craft brewers’ tap handles.

With 40 rotating draughts and 60 bottled and canned selections, it’ll take a while to make your way through the whole list at either bar. Beyond beer, the Davis Square location offers a full bar with a seven-seat whiskey bar boasting over 150 brown spirits to choose from. The Columbus Avenue location gets creative with their beer, wine, and cordial license, creating cocktails from a limited but interesting range of local craft spirits.
