Cocktail Party for the Commander in Chief

What kind of hors d’oeuvres does $40,000 get you? If you’re the leader of the free world or one of his wealthy (and generous) supporters, it’ll get you bite-sized deliciousness like crispy fried clams on toasted brioche with remoulade; and local strawberries wrapped in prosciutto. On Monday, June 25th, Hamersley’s Bistro chef-owner Gordon Hamersley whipped up a few nibbles for President Obama and twenty-five local supporters, each of whom had ponied up $40,000 to be there. The Commander in Chief and his guests also nibbled on grilled Louisiana shrimp flamed with pernod; Provencal stuffed eggs with olive tapenade; and spicy hummus on fried tortillas. Once all the hands had been shaken and funds had been raised, Obama sat down to a dinner of pan-roasted beef with black truffle infused potatoes, asparagus and red wine sauce. Fried clams? Steak? We’re not sure the First Lady would approve, but she can’t always be around to grow his dinner.  Besides, it was a special occasion. Head to Hamersley’s the next time you feel like being treated like a president (call 617.423.2700 for reservations). We promise not to tell Michelle.
