Before Christmas there’s Christmas Eve, and before that it’s Christmas Eve Eve. And while that’s not a nationally recognized holiday, it’s still the perfect excuse to keep your kitchen clean and head to Thistle & Leek in Newton Centre for a special prix fixe menu of some of chefs Kate and Trevor Smith’s inspired gastropub fare. The sumptuous three-course menu includes snacks for the table, your choice of two starters (think: poached shrimp with pommes puree, saffron sauce and persillade; or mushroom tart with puff pastry and crème fraîche), and a main course like roast duck breast with duck confit, garnet yam hash and pomegranate jus. Finish the night with chocolate cake, bergamot posset or a plate of cheese, all for $90 per person, and you can add a pint of something seasonal or a bottle of wine a la carte.
