The brainchild and passion project of Proprietor Andy Kilgore, The Emory is an owner-operated, chef-forward neighborhood barroom and kitchen atop Beacon Hill. Named in honor of generations of Kilgore men (many of whom were named Emory though none of them ever went by it), the restaurant evokes the spirited dinners shared between friends and family, a place whose walls enveloped guests in its own embrace: home strength.

The menu features fun, contemporary takes on simple, seasonally-focused, American food. Guests can enjoy a quick stopover, an hours-long dining experience and everything in between. With a concise selection of regularly featured staples as well as seasonally-inspired dishes, the lunch and dinner menus have many of the same options with the addition of midday salads and large format, shareable options in the evening. A rotating selection of charcuterie and raw bar with east coast oysters, littlenecks, and seasonal mignonette round out the offerings.

The beverage program focuses on craft cocktails and an approachable, intimate wine selection of both Old and New World styles culled by Kilgore’s extensive training and experience. A dozen creative tipples complement a collection of wines that spans the globe for a diverse by-the-glass and bottle program. Specialty buckets of sake and high life ponies complete the beverage program.

Once the Bellevue Hotel (built in 1899), the late 19th century space balances a soaring ceiling and dramatic Corinthian columns with cozy banquettes to create a sense of elegance and intimacy. Diners in search of a more casual or convivial experience can opt for high tops or communal table, respectively. The eight-seat chef’s counter offers a glimpse behind the curtain while a ten-seat bar welcomes diners and drinkers, alike. A great, historic mirror at the back of the restaurant creates depth and reflects the warm glow of The Emory’s neon sign while black and silver wallpaper and a subtly geometric design add a cool, modern element. Retro wall sconces, pendant lighting, and exposed bulbs give the room an understated sexiness that completes the modernization of the unique space.
