Harborside Derby Day Parties

A trip to Kentucky to see the Derby: hot, crowded, overpriced drinks, plane delays. A Kentucky Derby party on Boston’s waterfront: chic, perfect temperature, boat rides.

The choice is easy, especially since there are three ways to do the Derby this year out on the water. First up, get your big hats on and head to ReelHouse East Boston or Pier 6 in Charlestown for a bash that’s two parties for the price of one. Both venues will be showing the main event on big screens out on the waterfront patios between 3:00 and 7:00pm on Saturday, May 4th, and you can bet your bowtie that there’ll be plenty tasty bites from chef Marc Orfaly’s crew, plus Bulleit Bourbon and Ketel Botanical cocktails aplenty. If you can’t decide which patio suits your mood, don’t worry — there’ll be a free water taxi to jettison you back and forth between venues (weather permitting), so if the vibe is off at one place you can just hop on the boat and head across the harbor. Grab tickets here for $35, which includes your entrance fee and one drink ticket to spend on a ceremonial mint julep or other custom cocktail.

If you’re south of the city, you can snag a spot for a similar bash at ReelHouse Marina Bay in Quincy on Derby Saturday from 3:00 to 7:00pm. They’ll also be slinging Bulleit Bourbon Cocktails all afternoon and passing out snacks, and of course you won’t miss a minute of the action on their big screens. Grab tickets for that party here for $25, which includes one drink ticket, your entry fee, and all the eats. If you hurry, you can also get $10 off any of your tickets by using the code ROSES in your online checkout.

All three locations will also be handing out cool swag and prizes for the best hat and most dapper dresser, so dig out the seersucker and sundresses, because it’s Derby time once again!
