Heritage Pork & Beans Dinner at Hungry Mother

In the use-it-or-lose-it spirit, Slow Food Boston teams up with chef Barry Maiden at Hungry Mother on Wednesday, March 25th for a Heritage Pork & Beans Dinner. The evening’s menu will be composed of two varieties of pork and two types of beans pulled from Slow Food USA’s Ark of Taste, a listing of extremely rare regional specialties. Guests will be treated to a side by side tasting of a couple of porks – Red Wattle (a variety once believed extinct) and Tamworth/Gloucester Old Spot Cross, while they compare Marrowfat and Yellow Indian Woman beans. The rest of the menu includes Carolina Gold rice, greens and a seasonal dessert to round out the evening’s offerings. Book a table so you can try them before they disappear altogether (or do your part to bring them back from the brink of extinction). You can reserve a spot at either of two seatings (6:00 or 8:30pm) for $50 per person ($80 with wine pairing). For reservations, call 617.499.0090 and taste flavors which may not be along for much longer.
