Chef and pit-boss Andy Husbands is smoking up the Seaport, with a second installment of the Smoke Shop, his American barbecue joint slinging whiskey, brisket, and beer seven days a week in the fast-developing neighborhood on the water. Follow your nose to the 343 Congress Street location, where sparse decor and simple (though not easy!) preparations let the meat do all the talking.
Smoke Shop’s offerings are, as the name suggests, all about the meat. There are few surprises here, with barbecue staples making up the majority of the menu. A range of shareable starters kick things off, with baskets and combo plates featuring house-made sides and making the straightforward menu almost endlessly variable. The sandwiches and daily specials, too, feature most of your BBQusual suspects. Every table is adorned with a bucket-o-sauces so you can choose your own condiment adventure, and there are large-format meat options for big parties looking to grub hard.
A bar full of brown spirits and beer reinforces the restaurant’s smoky, backyard cookin’ roots, though wines are available by the glass, as well as house-crafted cocktails that don’t hail from Kentucky. Walk your way through Bourbon County with a whiskey flight, or pick the perfect pairing with a wide selection of cider and beer, both local and worldly, mild and adventurous.
Few things go better together than sports and smoked meats, and Smoke Shop has you covered with a half rack of TVs at the bar and along the walls for all your viewing needs. The high-ceilinged space is simple and industrial, with plain hardwoods covering the floor and tabletops, wrought-iron barstools, and meals served BBQ-style on no-nonsense, paper-lined trays. Every table is sans cloth and simply appointed with a couple of plates, plenty of napkins, and water glasses if you’re so inclined.
The Smoke Shop serves lunch and dinner daily. They also offer a takeout menu, available on their website, delivery through Foodler and Dash, private events, and off-site catering including an entire portable smoking rig.
