Le Grand Prix Elmendorf du Pain

Le Grand Prix Elmendorf du Pain

Tu aime le pain? That is, do you like bread? If your answer is “Oui, j’aime beaucoup le pain,” (yes, I like bread) you won’t want to miss Le Grand Prix Elmendorf du Pain in East Cambridge on Sunday, June 9th. The annual event that’s part Parisian street fair, part epic bread making competition, is back for a second year thanks to the busy bakers at Elmendorf Baking Supplies.

Based on the Grand Prix de la Baguette competition in Paris, which pits bakers around the City of Lights in a battle royale for baguette supremacy and the privilege of providing the French presidential residence with all of their bread for a year, the Cambridge competition invites professional bakers around The Hub to compete for the ultimate baguette bragging rights and become the official bread supplier of the Consulate General of France in Boston for 2024. If you’re a pro baker and would like to compete, find out what you need to do here.

Amateur bakers can get in on the fun, too, with a separate competition, which will be judged and announced at the street fair. This year’s category is miche, which is a large, sourdough country loaf. If you think you have what it takes to win, grab an entry spot here for $35 and you might take home a sweet trophy, a Pampshade baguette lamp, and a gift certificate to Elmendorf. Second and third place will take home prizes as well, and you can check out more info here.

Of course you don’t have to be a baker to love bread, which is why there’s a stylish street fair spread out between Cambridge Street & 8th Street from 12:00 to 4:00pm featuring French-inspired vendors like Formaggio Kitchen, Breadboard Bakery, Clear Flour, Salt Patisserie, Wild Pops, New Deal Fish Market, Waffle Cabin, Michette Bakery, Batifol, Zuzu’s Petals and more. There will also be live music and local artists — the only thing missing might be the Eiffel Tower itself. Entry to the festival is free, and it will take place rain or shine so dress appropriately — preferably in something stretchy so you can fill up on all the good food. Check out more info about the entire event here, and give Elmendorf Baking Supplies a call at 617.945.0045 if you have any Qs.
