Le Grand Prix du Pain

East Cambridge Business Association

Plane tickets to stroll the streets of Paris are pricey this summer, but a Parisian street festival and baguette competition in East Cambridge are free on Sunday, June 11th at the first-ever Le Grand Prix du Pain. Elmendorf Baking Supplies and the East Cambridge Business Association are putting on the bread-fest from 12:00 to 4:00pm on Cambridge Street @ 8th street, and the bragging rights stakes are high: the winner will be known as the best baguette in the Hub.

Inspired by a Paris baguette competition where the winners’ loaves supply the French presidential residence, the Grand Prix winners will be crowned as the official bread supplier of the Boston Consulate General of France for 2023. The competition is split into two categories for amateurs and professionals, with the pros competing for best baguette and amateurs vying for the most superb sourdough. If you want to throw your homemade crust in the ring the entry fee is $25 and you can enter here, and pros can get more info here and enter via email.

If you’re mostly in it for the French street fair vibes (and not so much the baking), grab a general admission ticket here for no cost. You’ll be able to enjoy live music, plus check out a la carte bites and sips from French-inspired food vendors as well as a selection of local artists like Formaggio Kitchen, Breadboard Bakery, Wild Pops, New Deal Fish Market, Emma’s Macarons, Waffle Cabin, Michette Bakery, and Batifol.

The fest goes down rain or shine so dress accordingly (including maybe some stretchy pants), and be sure to bring proper ID if you’re planning to sip any wines or cocktails. If you have any Qs give the Elemendorf peeps a buzz at 617.945.0045 and get ready to feel the joie de vivre of being surrounded by hundreds of fresh-baked baguettes.
