If you’re looking for a laid back good time in Quincy Center, Liberty Tavern is the place. Created and operated by Quincy firefighter Evan Harrington, who spent some quality time at Lincoln in Southie, and restaurateurs Nick Palermo (Greyhound Tavern in Bridgewater) and Michael Johnson, the bar and grill features classic American fare.

The Tavern makes good use of the stone pizza ovens (now converted to wood burning) built into the space from the former Angelo’s Coal Fired Pizza to crank out a stellar lineup of fresh house-made pies. There is a lot more to love on the menu besides pizza, however, and you’ll surely be able to find something to suit every craving from soups and salads, to shareable apps and wings, to burgers and sandwiches and substantial entrees. Liberty is also the place to be for brunch on the weekends, and night owls can get a pizza and apps every night after hours. They have a rotating cocktail list, which includes a charity offering each month where a portion of the proceeds goes toward a different local nonprofit, and an impressive mix of local drafts and canned craft brews as well as an approachable lineup of wines by the glass and bottle.

The fresh, modern and lively dining room features a large 22-seat bar with plenty of big screens, and both traditional tables and high tops. There is plenty of exposed brick and high ceilings, and you can take a peek into the kitchen through a large window at the back of the room. It’s the perfect spot for a night out with friends, catching a game on the big screens, or late night bites.
