FRANK is a warm and inviting fast casual restaurant and marketplace in Beverly that has some serious fine dining roots. For decades, chef and New England culinary icon Frank McClelland was the face of destination dining in Boston at the beloved L’Espalier before closing it down in 2018 and heading for the North Shore. His new venture has all the good taste and sensibility of L’Espalier, but swaps white tablecloths and dinner jackets for comfy booths and jeans.

The space at 12 Rantoul St. at Pleasant Street in the Holmes Beverly building across from the commuter rail stop is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a hybrid setup of a sit-down dining area and a grab-and-go marketplace. FRANK’s food is ingredient-driven and accessible, with thoughtful flavors and a family farm feeling — in fact many of the ingredients are sourced from McClelland’s own garden, and most are sourced from local growers such as First Light Farm in Hamilton, and Cedar Rock Gardens in Gloucester. The wine and drinks list is educated while remaining approachable, including a curated by-the-glass and bottle program with a mix of well-known producers and fun lesser knowns, a solid selection of regional craft beers (both on draft and in cans and bottles), plus a handful of local ciders and zero-proof options.

The restaurant accommodates 130 people between booths, tables, a patio in the warmer weather (with heaters), and counter seating overlooking the open kitchen where you can watch your farm-to-table lunch or dinner come together. The full-service restaurant is open for lunch Monday through Friday, brunch on weekends, and dinner seven nights a week. The marketplace opens bright and early seven days a week for commuters to grab a coffee and croissant in time for the train, and also offers an array of prepared salads and sandwiches as well as wine, hot sauces, FRANK swag and more. FRANK also hosts a monthly Apple Street Farm Supper Club, which celebrates local farms and fisheries, as well as a monthly wine club — all in all it’s truly a gourmet’s one-stop shop on the North Shore.
