Garrett Harker’s all-new Eastern Standard 2.0 on the ground floor of the luxurious Bower building on Beacon Street is a lively brassiere that offers an amazing view of Fenway Park and classic French and New England eats.
Most Bostonians remember the original Eastern Standard that once held court in the Hotel Commonwealth, and this updated iteration brings all the fun and charm of the original eatery to the new location (just a quarter of a mile from the original), plus some new updates that manage to enhance an already iconic concept.
Eastern Standard is the spot for classic shellfish towers and unfussy pastas, steak frites, and impressive appetizers that are perfect for sharing over a glass of wine. Harker’s longtime right-hand cocktail man, Jackson Cannon, designed the drinks menu, which will delight former regulars of the old location and The Hawthorne, and there’s an impressive lineup of local craft beers and food-friendly wines to choose from.
The room is sleek and spacious with a long marble bar with vintage mirrors anchoring the room, polished hardwood floors, terrazzo tiling and marble touches. The big red couch is poised to make a big return, and there is plenty of space for seating at traditional and high-top tables, plus there’s a heated, covered, three-season patio for warmer (and even not so warm) months.
