Located in Boston's bustling Downtown Crossing, Somaek serves up creative, contemporary Korean eats in an intimate and relaxed space that’s one of three concepts in the building from James Beard Award-winning chef Jamie Bissonnette and partners Andy Cartin and Babak Bina.
Centering on homemade, traditional Korean dishes, the menu is a mix of small plates of dumplings, noodles, stews, and other classic preparations Bissonette learned from consulting chef (and his mother-in-law) Soon Han. Order up a selection of small plates to share with the table and be sure to add a smattering of banchan side dishes to fill out your feast. The drinks menu also leans heavily into Korean spirits and cocktails, including the classic concotion that inspired the restaurant’s name, Somaek, which is made with beer and the spirit soju.
The petite dining room seats just 16 people at traditional tables and a few high-tops, plus there’s 13 seats at the bar making it the ideal spot for an intimate get together or cozy meetup after work. The space is filled with earth tones and minimalist accents, and the walls are adorned with Korean art giving it a relaxed, modern vibe that’s just right for a bite before a show or a weekend night out.
