Straddling the line between the Back Bay and the South End, The Salty Pig is a neighborhood restaurant for people from all over the city. Owners Michael Moxley and Jim Cochener, who also own Jamaica Plain’s Canary Square and South End’s Coda, combine a convivial, low key atmosphere with a beautifully executed menu to appeal to neighbors, commuters, businesspeople and visitors.
Featuring a wide range of salty pig parts in the form of house made meats and small batch, hand selected cheeses, the menu is designed to be mixed and matched to create personalized charcuterie boards. Fresh, locally grown seasonal ingredients rotate frequently incorporated into wood-grilled pizzas, handmade pastas and regional Italian entrees. The bar features value driven Old World wines, American craft beer and specialty cocktails.
Industrial touches in the dining room – blackboard-painted walls with chalk drawings and the lengthy, reclaimed wood-topped bar outfitted with brightly colored chairs – create a vibe that’s almost like a whimsical laboratory (and a nod to how seriously they take their food and how much fun they’re having).
