South Boston can be a tough neighborhood to crack but Moonshine 152 chef-owner Asia Mei has the code. She lives there and she spent years working at Franklin Southie before opening her own joint (in the very same space on Dorchester Ave.) in early 2015.
Moonshine 152 bridges a cultural and culinary divide, bringing diners from near and far across Fort Point Channel for a menu that melds elements of Asian and Latin American cuisine with modern American fare. Open well into the wee hours, it’s beloved among industry folks as well as laypeople.
And what’s not to like? There are cozy booths for two as well as comfy, more spacious ones designed for bigger groups. Seats at the bar are plentiful. The earth-toned walls lined with succulent-filled planters and blonde wood floors combine to create an open and inviting space. In the spring and summer guests can catch some shade at umbrella-topped tables for brunch or dine under festive strong lights once the sun has gone down.
