In an industrial space paying homage to Woburn’s history of craftsmanship, Matadora is a chic tapas restaurant bringing an urban pop to the newly renovated Hilton Hotel 10 miles outside of downtown Boston. Whether you’re staying the night or just stopping by for a craft cocktail, Matadora’s menu full of Spanish-style snacks and entrees provides a range of options you can enjoy in the stylish dining room, at the centerpiece bar, or out on the patio next to the fire pit.
Matadora, as the name suggests, is a complete Spanish experience, with a dramatic wood-fired grill anchoring the kitchen and the menu with a selection of grilled meats and seafoods. The menu strikes a stylistic balance between street-food and fine dining, meaning you’ll be just as comfortable diving into a three-course meal as you will socializing around finger foods. Expect to find hearty Spanish classics throughout, from small bites and charcuterie to dessert.
The restaurant’s design, like the hotel around it, was inspired by Woburn’s roots as a tanner’s and cobbler’s capital. Housed beneath the hotel’s atrium, you’ll find reclaimed woods and industrial lighting creating a stark and stylish atmosphere. Dramatic murals depict the restaurant’s namesake, and a life-sized, steampunk statue of a bull really ties the room together over a concrete floor. Diners have plenty of options, from communal tables to patio sofas and leather high-tops surrounding the bar, all surrounding the open kitchen.
The Spanish influence spills over into the bar program, where you’ll find a wide selection of vermouth, sherry, and sangria for sipping with your tapas. The cocktail list has fun playing with the motif, with a variety of inspired ingredients and a shareable drink served in a porron. Snag a flight of sangria if you’re feeling indecisive, or a local craft beer if you want to keep it simple. The wine list is straight to the point, featuring predominantly Spanish varietals with a few American cousins thrown in the mix.
Matadora also offers a swanky event space—the Rivet room—available for private parties or general socializing over leather couches and pool tables.
