Another regionally-focused concept from Chef Jason Santos (See Buttermilk & Bourbon for his spin on the Bayou), Citrus & Salt brings MexiCali cuisine to Boston with playful riffs on Baja classics and plenty of tequila to wash it all down in a bright, beachy space at 321 A Street in Fort Point.

A trip to the beach is all about a good time, and the menu at Citrus & Salt keeps fun in mind with its funky coastal Mexican fare. The menu isn’t huge and neither are the plates, with dishes meant for sampling and sharing. Imagine a surfside taco stand with a blue-haired celebrity chef in the kitchen—you’ll recognize the names of a lot of the dishes but still be surprised by the flavors. There’s a raw bar to kick things off, and a few playful desserts to keep your palate intrigued ’til the end.

Your eyes will have as much fun as your mouth in the vibrant space, imagined and executed by Assembly Design Studio. The dining room will transport you to the Baja coast of California and Mexico circa the 1970’s with bright pops of colors; fun, Instagrammable moments; and vibrant sugar skulls, flamingos, and flowers artfully hand-painted throughout. The new, larger space will boast an additional 40 seats indoors, a large outdoor patio, and a chic private room, “The Patron Room” – for a total of 16 seats.

The food and decor don’t get to have all the fun; there’s plenty of whimsy going on behind the bar, too. More than 50 tequila and mezcal options to choose from means your margarita will never be boring – the brash and irreverent cocktail list is definitely the star of the show, with a wide variety of playful, eye-catching, and delicious options.  In addition to expansive offerings of beer, wine, and classic cocktails, Citrus & Salt will serve a variety of signature cocktails; margaritas featuring fresh fruit purées; tequila flights; shareable drinks; red and white sangrias; and non-alcoholic agua frescas. There will also be boozy dole whips and soft serve mimosas available.

Citrus & Salt is open for dinner and weekend brunch with a late-night dining program called “Tacos After Dark.”
