With a sister restaurant in Brookline and a close cousin in Davis Square, Burro Bar brings the South End into this Latin American family with their cozy Washington Street location. Every day is taco Tuesday in this spunky little nook, where you can wash ‘em down at the bar with a wide selection of tequila or tuck into a banquette and pair creative margaritas with a street-food-inspired feast.

Perusing the menu at Burro Bar feels a little like wandering the stalls of a south-of-the-border street market. You’ll recognize a few staple dishes, elevated but not fancy, while others will be tantalizingly unfamiliar, encouraging experimentation and sharing. You’ll find small plates and shareable snacks in the Appetizers and Del Mar sections, and no trip is complete without a dip into the Quesos Fundidos. The selection of Tacos speaks for itself, serving up creative spins on the ultimate classic, and Entrees are full hearty meals packed with creative flavor if you don’t feel like spending half an hour debating the menu with your tablemates. The dessert menu is short and extra sweet, with house-made frozen treats and a selection of small treats to finish the meal right.

Whatever you order, your plates will arrive as colorful as the room, which pops with deep blue banquettes, a vibrant teal ceiling, and bright flashes of yellow and pink. The custom artwork on the walls is, like the restaurant, gorgeous and quirky, and the light fixtures look like giant glowing flowers. Outdoors, there’s al fresco dining on the patio with glowing Edison bulbs strung between South End Brownstones.

It’s called Burro Bar for a reason, and the the first thing you’ll notice on the drink menu is an entire page of Margaritas. The simple drink is offered in a number of iterations, with house-infused spirits and swapped citrus and sweeteners that demonstrate how each ingredient matters. If tequila isn’t your jam, there’s a full selection of creative non-agave cocktails, as well as local beers on draught and a deep selection of national craft brews. The wine list is short and thoughtful, with a couple of sparklers, reds, and whites chosen to compliment the flavors on the menu.

Burro Bar in the South End serves dinner every day, weekend brunch, and the bar slings ’til 1am seven nights a week.
