Burro Bar Brookline, part of the Alpine Restaurant Group, opened its doors in Washington Square in early 2017. The neighborhood dining destination, sibling to Posto and Painted Burro, blends authentic Mexican techniques with local bounty, and first class hospitality with a comfortable and relaxed setting.

Chef-owner Joe Cassinelli’s inventive menu takes its inspiration from all over Mexico – Baja, Oaxaca, Vera Cruz and the Yucatan – with splashes from South America. Although it takes a modern approach to cuisine, the menu still demonstrates a healthy respect for tradition with dishes where ingredients and local produce take center stage.

The beverage program at the Burro Bar features a tequila list with over 100 bottles that are handpicked and “Burro tested and approved”. Available in 1 oz. or 2 oz. tastings, the spirits can also be incorporated into margaritas meant to showcase (never mask) the pure flavors of the tequila. The Burro Bar also offers an impeccable cocktail, cerveza and wine list. There are mezcal and tequila cocktails, vodka cocktails and rum cocktails that travel well beyond the Mexican borders.

Sleek and colorful, the dining room evokes a swanky feel, incorporating hints of turquoise, greens, and burnt oranges. The artwork was created by Raul Gonzalez who also painted the murals at the original Painted Burro. The light fixtures are hanging glass vase-like vessels and gold starbursts placed throughout the room. There are 50 seats in the dining room with 12 at the bar and an additional 20 on the patio, weather permitting.
