True to its name, Banyan pays serious homage to the root-happy banyan tree of Asia: branches are affixed to the back wall, they sprout from light fixtures, they hang over the bar. But you aren’t in the sticks—you’re in The Gallows Group’s South End restaurant, an Asian bistro whose menu couldn’t be further, conceptually, from longtime occupant Hamersley’s Bistro.
The interior offers several seating options, including a bar, banquettes, booths, high-tops and a chef’s table where diners can watch their food being prepared. In the summer months, a beautifully shaded patio offers tables or, for lucky early-arrivals, plush easy chairs and couches with interspersed coffee tables upon which to snack. Inside, the bar gets crowded early and often, so snag a table to share some small plates with friends (or order a ‘larger’ dish all for yourself).
