The Lenox Hotel has welcomed a pair of unusual guests to its Boylston Street lobby. As part of The Great Elephant Migration, the Back Bay hotel is displaying life-sized elephant sculptures and serving specialty cocktails in support of the exhibition’s conservation efforts.
More than 100 handcrafted elephant sculptures have transformed the Comm Ave Mall into a temporary home for a traveling herd, as part of a public art exhibition designed to raise awareness and funds for wildlife conservation initiatives that help people and animals coexist. Created by artisans from Betta Kurumba, Paniya, Kattunayakan and Soliga communities of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in South India, each sculpture is inspired by a real Indian elephant.
Available at both The Irving and Willow & Ivy through mid-September, the aforementioned cocktails ($23 each) include the Pink Pachyderm, made with Lalo Tequila, Sarti Liqueur, Suze, orgeat and lemon, and the Elephant in the Room, featuring Silent Pool Gin, Lalo Tequila, Lillet Blanc, orange and lime. Whichever one you choose (not that you even have to choose – you can have both!), a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Great Elephant Migration’s conservation mission.
After spending time with the herd on Commonwealth Avenue, stop by The Lenox to say hello to its resident elephants before settling in with a cocktail or sitting down to a bite at The Irving or Willow & Ivy as you see fit.
