Plan a trip to the Seaport into the latter half of the week to be among the first to check out Mr. H – the stylish new spot (the tenth from the COJE Management Group, which also operates Ruka, Yvonne’s and Coquette among others) will be open for dinner starting on Thursday, September 12th.
Named as an homage to Huang Mingxian, who’s believed to be the inventor of the soup dumpling, Mr. H takes its cues from the cuisines of mainland China and Taiwan, inspired by the travels and culinary adventures of the COJE team. Designed by Chief Culinary Officer Tom Berry, the menu is divided into four sections: Cold Treasures, Dumplings & Dim Sum, The Night Market and Wok & BBQ. Expect nibbles like chicken wings, crab & shrimp shumai and tons of dumplings (pork, chicken, glutinous rice, jade and, of course, soup), as well as noodles (dan dan, crab, chicken and heartbreak jelly) and street food-inspired specialties (scallion pancakes, popcorn spareribs and honey prawns).
Beverage Director Ray Tremblay’s cocktail list leans into the same Asian influences as the menu with a meticulously curated and beautifully presented selection of draft highball cocktails, Chinese tea-inspired drinks, large format and spirit-free beverages. The versatile wine list is designed to complement the flavors of modern Chinese cuisine while a pared down collection of Chinese craft beers, complemented by familiar faves like Tsingtao, round out the beverage menu.
In true COJE fashion, the dining room combines whimsy and sophistication from the animated neon fish at the entrance to the hand painted host stand surrounded by hundreds of tea boxes. Find a spot in any of the three distinct dining areas, the Dumpling Lounge, where a you can enjoy your meal by the glow of the custom cast brass dragon under the lotus flower chandelier; the Dumpling Bar where you can grab one of the six seats to get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes goings-on; or the Main Dining Room where dramatic elements like red lacquered table bases and sleek black chairs are balanced by plush banquettes and soft silk cushions. Be sure to take a spin through the restroom while you’re there, to check out the AI generated wallpaper (none of the featured faces are real) and keep their 12-person private dining room with its gold mural wallpaper, gold and black curtains, a brass and green jade blown glass chandelier (and AV capabilities!), in mind for future get togethers.
Mr. H, located at 225 Northern Avenue, will be open nightly from 5:00pm-2:00am (food ‘til 1:30am) to start, with lunch service coming soon. You can scope out the menu below or hop over to their website for more info, reservations and take-out (coming soon). In the meantime, keep an eye on their Insta for sneak peeks and updates.
