The creative minds behind some of Boston’s most popular restaurants have come together like a supergroup to create Assembly Row’s newest addition, Civility Social House. Chef and restaurateur Chris Damian from Legendary Restaurant Group (Papagayo, Sip Wine Bar + Kitchen) created the new concept as a neighborhood restaurant where friends can come together.
The menu will feature some imaginative and elevated pub fare, with a slew of fun twists and takes. Expect to find high-quality handmade burgers, flatbreads, charcuterie boards and salads mixed with some Civility originals like a Mac & Cheese Donut (pictured above), Lollipop Chicken Thighs, and heartier mains like Red Wine Braised Short Rib. There will also be plenty of tasty sips to wash everything down with an extensive cocktail lineup, a stellar collection of local craft beers, and a selection of small-batch wines.
The 3,600-square-foot space houses a 25-seat bar with retro bowling-alley style stools and space in the dining room for around 100 guests. There are floor-to-ceiling windows and a retractable garage door that leads out to the patio for warmer weather, with reclaimed and upcycled material details throughout. Designed by Michael and Erica Diskin of Assembly Design Studio, whose work includes: Citrus & Salt, Capo, and The Punk & Poet, the room is filled with tons of local art including murals by Boston’s Erica Hagler of Blind Fox Art, who has also created art for Coquette, Mariel, PKL and Spin. Mark Grundig, who helped design Tuscan Market, Buttermilk + Bourbon and Big Night Live, also did some wall painting design, and there are commissioned pieces hanging from Dirty Dek and artist Dane Shue.
Civility Social House, located at 490 Foley Street in Somerville, is set to open on January 31st at 4:00pm for dinner with limited seating. Give them a call at 617.675.6200 for a reservation or keep an eye on their website for online booking. They plan to serve dinner seven nights a week, Sunday through Wednesday from 4:00 to 10:00pm and Thursday through Saturday from 4:00 to 11:00pm, and there are plans to expand into brunch and lunch later in the year.
