Good Italian eats to-go are just a quick trip away in Charlestown now that chef Johnny Burke has made his pandemic-era pop-up, Johnny Pomodoro, a permanent fixture at 297 Main Street.

Burke, an alum of Barbara Lynch’s The Butcher Shop and T.W. Food and Belly Wine Bar, struck out on his own with the popular Johnny’s Takeaway in West Roxbury in 2018 with ready-to-go meals, and started doing themed pop ups during Covid, including the old-school, red-sauce Italian-style counter service “Pomodoro” concept.

Charlestown peeps can skip slaving over a hot stove and grab tasty lunches or dinners of classic pizza-parlor bites like chicken parmesan, Caesar salads, pastas, garlic knots, and of course homemade pesto, piccata and pomodoro sauces. There are also lots of subs and meatballs (and meatball subs), square sheet-tray pizzas, dipping sauces and takeout salads.

Johnny Pomodoro is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00am to 10:00pm (closed Mondays). You can order online on the website for pickup, or download a handy app for iPhone or Android, and keep tabs on all of chef Burke’s goings on by following Johnny Pomodoro and Johnny Burke Catering on Instagram.
