Bostonians looking for a little hair of the dog in Downtown Crossing can head to The Wig Shop, the newest cocktail lounge from the Bina Family Hospitality team. Tucked in next to Bina’s  jm Curley and Bogie’s Place, the new setup is serving up retro upscale cocktails, Champagne and fancy finger foods seven days a week.

Housed in the space that was once Wig World, the new lounge keeps the vibe of the former business alive in more than just name only, but you’ll have to head down to 27 Temple Place and let your hair down (real or otherwise) yourself to really see the finished cut. The dining room is decked out with an L-shaped bar made of dark quartz, and blue and maroon velvet booths and chairs are surrounded by gold accented tables. Gold wall sconces and black metal light fixtures over the bar provide just the right amount of lounge-friendly lighting.

The team behind the new lounge is made up of Bina Family Hospitality and Boston industry veterans including restaurateur Babak Bina, who owns and operates jm Curley, Bogie’s Place and Bin 26 Enoteca, and managing partner Kevin Mabry (Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain at Mohegan Sun and Capo Restaurant & Supper Club). Oscar Simoza heads up the bar team, who downtowners will probably recognize from jm Curley, and executive chef John Malone (formerly of Loco Taqueria, Lucy’s American Tavern and jm Curley) is leading the kitchen team.

The motto of the new joint is, “a cocktail lounge with a champagne problem,” so expect some true-to-the-roots classics and new hair do’s riffs like the Rise & Grind with Old Monk 7-year rum, ‘Mustache Flex’ cold brew, Borghetti, and cinnamon demerara topped with heavy whip, chocolate covered pretzels and sea salt. There are also “big swigs” punch bowls for groups of four or more.

Bin 26 Enoteca’s sommelier Nader Asgari-Tari has curated a thoughtful list of bubbles including AR Lenoble Mag 17 Intense, Veuve Clicquot ‘Le Grand Dame’ and Bollinger R.D Extra Brut ’07 en magnum. Plus there is a limited list of red and white wines, and the Bogie’s Place full wine list is available upon request. The Shop also has an exclusive partnership with Vitamin Sea Brewing, so beer drinkers can choose from a rotating selection of their IPAs, plus other selections including Saison Dupont.

If you fancy a bite or two, try some Dolled Up Oysters with a rosé mignonette, yuzu crème fraiche, basil oil and caviar, or Beignets with cinnamon banana curd and chocolate for your sweet tooth, or check out the full menu here.

The Wig Shop is open every day starting at 5:00pm, and they are taking limited reservations via OpenTable. It’s steps away from the T on both the green or orange lines, but if you are driving there is discounted parking available at Lafayette Garage at 1 Lafayette Place. Follow them on Instagram for updates, and call 617.338-6333 with any Qs.
