Salt Patisserie, Now Open

Newton’s got a brand new destination for coffee and baked goods – Salt Patisserie is now open in Piccadilly Square. Make a beeline for the ‘burbs to stock up on sweets and more from chef-owner Thiago Silva, who you might recognize from his title-taking turn on Food Network’s Dessert Games (or appearances on Best Baker in America or Beat Bobby Flay or Sugar Rush or Chopped Sweets or School of Chocolate – he’s been very busy).

Located at 792 Beacon Street, Salt is Thiago’s Boston-area venture and its menu is an homage to both his French training and Brazilian roots with treats like the Quatro Leites Cake: Silva’s riff on the classic tres leches which features housemade dulce de leche (as the fourth milk) and Pao de Queijo, a gluten-free cheese bread. There are, of course, a variety of housemade croissants, bonbons, muffins, cookies, macarons and cakes. And La Colombe Coffee!

Silva was the Executive Pastry Chef at New York City’s EMM Group (now Catch Hospitality)  before moving to Boston to take a position as Director of Chocolate with Chew Innovation. “I’ve always dreamt of running a patisserie that brings together delicious pastry and a true sense of community. Opening my first Boston-area bakery in the town where I am raising my family feels like a natural extension of myself. I am so proud to open the doors to SALT and show our neighbors what we’ve been working on for the past year.”

To start, Salt (named in tribute to Silva’s favorite ingredient) will be open from 7:00am-7:00pm seven days a week with expanded hours, patio seating and a full chocolate program coming soon. Pop in next time you’re in Newton or pop over to their website or Insta to get a glimpse of the goings-on. Ooh, and if you want to talk about custom cakes (Silva’s creations have graced the tables of celebs like Sofia Vergara, Miranda Kerr and Carmelo Anthony) drop them an email.
