The Dubliner, Now Open

The Dubliner

Government Center peeps still mourning the loss of The Kinsale can rejoice – The Dubliner, a brand new Irish eatery, is now open at 2 Center Plaza with a menu of inventive-yet-authentic Irish fare, live music (coming soon) and, of course, the perfect pint of Guinness.

The new venture is headed by executive chef/owner Aidan McGee in partnership with the East Coast Tavern Group. McGee brings an impressive resume with him to Boston (Ireland’s “next parish over”), having worked in multiple Michelin-starred restaurants including Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Foliage at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, and Launceston Place in Kensington. Most recently he was the executive chef at the Corrigan Collection, a group of four restaurants in the UK and Ireland (including critically acclaimed Corrigan’s Mayfair) headed up by Irish celebrity, one Michelin star chef Richard Corrigan.

The Dubliner will be more than just a bar with an Irish name. McGee aims to highlight many of the flavors and attention to techniques and local ingredients that are in fashion in the culinary renaissance taking place lately in Ireland. “Our goal is to show our customers how exceptionally good the level of food and hospitality is in Ireland in 2022,” he said. Think: grilled garden leeks, Maine crabs on Irish soda bread with seaweed butter, classic fish and chips, Hill Mountain shepherd’s pie, slow-cooked beef cheeks, and even some New England-friendly soft serve ice cream topped with Lucky Charms. Every Sunday McGee and the team will also serve up a traditional Irish Sunday Roast — typically beef or lamb — with classic accompaniments of potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.

The space has been totally remodeled since The Kinsale days, but it will still resemble a classic Irish pub with a rich, royal palette of red, gold and brown, a painted tile ceiling, woodwork and stonework, leather, and vibrant wallpaper. There is both indoor and patio seating, and (no surprise) an expansive bar with plenty of seats. The Dubliner is conveniently located right across the plaza from City Hall, and will be open Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 2:00am, and 10:00am to 2:00am on Saturday and Sunday.
