Imagine (don’t worry, there’ll be no celebrities singing here) a world without restaurants. No cozy neighborhood joints. No celebratory, big occasion, fine dining destinations. No classic tourist traps. No cutting-edge, envelope-pushing spots. Ew. That sounds awful. But it could be a reality if these businesses, which operate on thin margins to begin with and have now been mandated to curtail their operations significantly, don’t get some help. Let your elected officials know what an important part of the culture restaurants are by signing this petition. The suggestions are pretty reasonable – things like endorsing rent and loan abatement for workers, waiving payroll taxes and/or waving zoning restrictions to allow restaurants to sell or deliver beer and wine. Have a look and sign your name alongside the 200,000+ people who are already on board.
