Simple, authentic Italian food is what you’ll find at newly-opened Bar ‘Cino, the latest spot to settle into the St. Mary’s neighborhood. The menu focuses on quality — it’s one page for a reason — and presents a select set of stellar dishes with classic Italian ingredients (namely fig, lemon, mushrooms and white beans) sprinkled throughout each section. Standouts that are sure to pique your interest are lumache with lobster, fennel cream, garlic and herbed breadcrumbs; baked clams with butter, white wine, garlic, chilis, scallions, pomodoro sauce on crostini; and chianti braised beef short rib on top of evoo-mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Inventive salads, five types of bruschetta, grilled pizza, seafood-heavy pasta and a few amount of shareable plates round out the offerings.

Beverage Director Shawn Westhoven, a 20 year veteran in the industry, is the mastermind behind the bar program. He’s gathered up his favorite picks of Italian reds and whites to pour by the glass, half glass and bottle along with New England and Italian brews, both bottled and on draught. Cocktail lovers will go crazy for the joint’s signature sangria, which comes with a bucatini straw, and other sips like the Downeast Negroni (Beefeater gin, Coffee Campari, Americano and Carpano Antica vermouth) and the Chinato Sour (Capellano chinato, Contratto Americano, vermouth, elderflower and aquafaba).
