A Dozen Ways to Celebrate National Tequila Day

To celebrate National Tequila Day — Wednesday, July 24th — local mixologists are rolling out quite the array of tasty tequila-based beverages. With flavors like jalapeño, blood orange, watermelon, turmeric and coconut running through these drinks, there’s no shortage of variety — good luck choosing which one(s) to try in honor of the summery holiday!

Bistro du Midi – Sirocco

Sip on a spicy, citrusy cocktail (a fave of executive chef Robert Sisca) at Bistro du Midi. The Sirocco is made with hot pepper-infused tequila, Liquor 43, triple sec and lime — it’s got just enough burn to make it good but not too much to do a number on your taste buds. Added bonus: this piquant potion comes with picturesque views of the Boston Public Garden, too!

Chopps – Pimentel’s Paloma

Chopps American Bar and Grill celebrates National Tequila Day with their tasty Pimentel’s Paloma, made with grapefruit juice, triple sec, and Truly sparkling water. There’ll also be live music and other tasty treats throughout the day at this Burlington steakhouse, so hop in the car (or, even better, an Uber) and head for the ‘burbs.

Committee Ouzeri + Bar – El Camino

Committee Ouzeri + Bar invites you to celebrate with uniquely crafted tequila drinks. Get to the Seaport to try El Camino, made with lime, tumeric, agave, coconut-cream and of course, tequila. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, take on their Smokey the Bird, which includes chipotle-infused mezcal, mango, pineapple, Martini & Rossi Bitters, lime, cinnamon and orange bitters.

Davio’s Boston – Italian Margarita

Davio’s Boston shows off its sweeter side for National Tequila Day with their Italian margarita, which incorporates Don Julio Blanco tequila, Cointreau, limoncello, some lemon, lime and orange for a citrus-y drink worth savoring.

Grill 23 & Bar – Steel Magnolia

Take your steak with a side of tequila — or at least a tequila-based crowd-pleaser like the Steel Magnolia. With Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila, Del Maguey ‘Vida’ Mezcal and St. Elder Elderflower Liqueur, plus lime juice and muddled cucumber, it’s the perfect bevvy to keep you cool in this crazy summer heat. And, just for Wednesday, July 24th, Grill 23 & Bar is also subbing Extra Anejo Tequila into classic whiskey drinks. Just ask your server to send a surprise and put your faith in the bar team.

Harvest – Spicy Margarita Poptail

If you saw Harvest‘s Executive Pastry Chef Joshua Livsey on the Food Network (he’s been on Best Baker in America and Holiday Baking Championship), you know he’s a talented guy. This summer, he’s turning his attention from baked goods to booze with the Harvard Square spot’s Poptails & Taco menu. The Spicy Margarita Poptail comes with a mango jalapeño popsicle placed right inside — get yourself one before they’re gone because you won’t want to miss this unique way to imbibe.

Mystique Asian Restaurant & Lounge – Komodo Dragon

Mystique Asian Restaurant & Lounge at the freshly opened Encore casino offers an array of tequila drinks from which to choose. Anything on the list is probably a safe bet, but you can try your luck with the Komodo Dragon, which combines chili-infused Avion Silver tequila, lime agave, mango, togarashi and black sea salt. Or go for the Crouching Tiger, which blends Casamigos Blanco, lime agave and tamarind — it’s pretty much a sure thing.

Time Out Market – Watermelon Wonderful

Boston’s brand spanking new food hall in Fenway is just the spot to snag a Watermelon Wonderful, a drink that’s just as delightful and delicious as it sounds. Dreamed up by Beverage Director Kelly Coggins, the sipper mixes tequila from Arette Blanco (it has a light, floral and fruity nose) along with watermelon, agave, lime and triple sec. It’s served with a wasabi salt half rim, which packs a spicy punch to counter the otherwise sweet libation.

Tony C’s Sports Bar –  Spicy Tonyrita

Tony C’s Sports Bar proves that their know-how goes way beyond beer with their signature spicy Tonyrita. This fiery little beverage is mixed with Cazadores Blanco, O3 orange liqueur, watermelon puree, fresh lime juice, agave and topped with a jalapeno garnish.
