Georgina Castellucci on Lifestyle Blogging

Boston Georgina Instagram

Georgina Castellucci is a go-getter, simple as that. She’s got a lot on her plate — both figuratively and literally — as a Senior Influencer Operations Manager for Mavrck and blogger at A Noted Life as well as a food lover making the most of Boston’s prospering culinary scene. Whether she’s on the move exploring New England, sitting down to enjoy a meal or perfecting her skincare routine, she still finds time to update her widely-followed Instagram feed (you might know her online as @bostongeorgina) with travel inspiration, beauty tips and her favorite food dishes from all over the city. Here, she opens up about keeping her social media rules to a minimum and why she thinks Davis Square is a foodie hotspot right now.

Tell us a little about yourself. How’d you end up in Boston, and what inspired you to create your Instagram account?

I grew up in a tiny MA suburb (Wayland) and moved into Boston some time ago to pursue my passion (marketing) at a startup. I bounced around to work on the brand side, at a media/ad agency and have found myself now where I belong at a tech startup running influencer marketing campaigns for some of the most innovative companies in the world. I created my Instagram account about three years after starting my Boston-based lifestyle blog which was founded about 10 years ago. I also co-ran Best Food Boston and also serve on Localeur’s Advisory Board and provide them content on Boston’s food scene. Much of the time people ask me about my “food blog” and I tell them it’s actually lifestyle, it just so happens food is my life!

Name the top five dishes on your Boston food bucket list.

The Bass Ceviche with pickled onions, concord grapes and crisped corn at Talulla
The Late Summer pizza at Rabottini’s
Nana’s Shrimp & Grits at Bootleg Special
The Lumache at Chickadee
The Matcha Tiramisu at Kamakura

What do you think the next big trend is for restaurants?

I have loved seeing and anticipating so many independent openings like Karen Akunowicz formerly of Myers & Chang and Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli of Island Creek Oyster Bar and Eastern Standard! I am so excited to see (and support) where their solo ventures take them.

Which chefs are your favorite to follow on Instagram?

Marcus Samuelsson (@marcuscooks)
Jamie Bissonnette (@jamiebiss)
Chef Ahki (@chefahki)
Kayla Greer (@chefkaykay)

Beyond chefs, what are your top three favorite Instagram accounts to follow?

@shionat: I love her style, zest for life, and following her travels!
@melissaswardrobe: One of the funniest influencers you’ll ever follow. Melissa always keeps it real and she is always putting you on to beauty products with high street quality without the hefty price tag!
@scoutthecity: She is proof that exotic travel and exquisite style does not stop once you have children!

Describe Boston’s food scene in three words.

Thriving, proud, charming

Which restaurants haven’t you been to but you’re eager to try?

La Fabrica Central, Little Dipper, Our Fathers (I know), and Noca Provisions

What’s your food photography philosophy, and can you share your top tips for taking awesome food photos?

I try to keep my social outlet rules to a minimum and instead focus on excellent lighting, overall quality, and maintaining my personality in everything I post. Don’t let the lack of perceived perfection stop you from posting frequently!

A Few Of Your Favorite Things:

Favorite brunch spot: I dream about Mary Dumont’s Malted Milk French Toast Torrejas at Cultivar. I have had so many legendary meals at Cultivar!

Favorite place for outdoor dining: Pier 6

Favorite BBQ joint: There is something incredible and addicting in Andy Husbands’ brisket. I love that there is now a Smoke Shop so close to where we live (though sometimes hate it re: my waistline!)

Favorite late-night: SRV without question. I love their cicchetti menu; their drinks are delicious and creative; the service is impeccable; and the music is always perfection.

Favorite neighborhood for food: This changes seasonally but right now definitely Davis with its strong newcomers Tsurumen and Dazken.

Favorite new restaurant: I love the tiny yet mighty Celeste in Union Square! With its open kitchen, lively atmosphere, and exceptional service, it is definitely a new spot I have been dying to return to.
