Tastes 2 To Tango on Tennis & Taking Good Food Photos

Sweet treats are the theme of Tastes 2 To Tango’s Instagram account, which is run by couple Nina Levine, an avid baker, and Josh Jordan. The two Yelp elites faithfully document their foodventures, highlighting brightly-colored eats, plenty of pizza and tons of donuts. Learn how they met, what Boston spot they think has the best breakfast sandwiches and which three words they’d use to describe Boston’s food scene.

Tell us a little about yourself. How’d you end up in Boston, and what inspired you to create your Instagram account?

We met playing tennis in undergrad just outside of Boston. After both moving back home for a couple years to figure out our next steps, we decided to move back to Boston to each begin our graduate school studies. I’m sure a ton of people say that they LOVE food. But we really LOVE food. So much that we liked documenting each thing we ate and where we ate it. It became a map for our favorite food spots. We decided to start @tastes2totango to share our love for food with the world and hope to spread the word about some of our favorite spots in Boston and beyond.

Name the top five dishes on your Boston food bucket list.

1) All the specials from In A Pickle in Waltham, MA
2) Donuts. All the donuts from everywhere.
3) Breakfast sandwiches from Mike and Patty’s
4) BBQ from Sweet Cheeks
5) Oath Craft pizza

What do you think the next big trend is for restaurants?

Probably having designated spots for photographs to be taken. I know some restaurants are doing this, but it’s to their advantage because so many people do it anyways! Why not get some good lighting?!

Which chefs are your favorite to follow on Instagram?

1) @chefeustace
2) @tiffanifaison
3) @mingtsai

Beyond chefs, what are your top three favorite food Instagram accounts to follow?

1) @Bostonfoodgram takes AMAZING pictures. We don’t know how she does it, but they’re the definition of perfect.
2) @TasteofMassachusetts — I give him lots of credit for telling me to focus on @tastestotango. He’s a very generous foodie with a lot of followers who is always looking out for fellow influencers!
3) @Bostonfoodjournal is just a Boston classic. Everyone should be following her.
4) LAST ONE! @eastcoastfeastcoast. BEST food Instagram account period.

Describe Boston’s food scene in three words.

Innovative, Fusion, DELICIOUS

Which restaurants haven’t you been to but you’re eager to try?

1) Committee
2) Honeygrow
3) Coppa Enoteca

What’s your food photography philosophy, and can you share your top tips for taking awesome food photos?

Lighting is really important to make sure you do the dish justice. We bought a portable light that’s been great, but nothing beats some natural light. We have a Canon camera that we like to use, and it’s a great investment because it can be used for so many things that aren’t food (although that’s its main use for us).
