Hamersley’s Bistro to Close in October

After 27 years of service, Hamersley’s Bistro, one of Boston’s most enduring and beloved restaurants, will close its doors for good at the end of October. Chef Gordon Hamersley was at the forefront of the upscale French bistro movement when he opened his 49-seat restaurant in 1987 and can be credited with ushering in a new era of Boston restaurants and launching the culinary renaissance in the South End. A James Beard award-winning chef, Hamersley was widely known for serving the best roast chicken in Boston, appearing on television in 1992 in an unforgettable episode of “In Julia Child’s Kitchen with Master Chefs.” He and his wife, Fiona will be taking some time off as he wraps up his second cookbook, which has been in the works for over a decade. The space at 553 Tremont Street, as well as the liquor license, has already been sold to a new owner, who plans to renovate the location and open something new in early 2015. Be sure to swing by and and say goodbye before they close up shop.
