B&G’s Oyster Invitational

If you’re an oyster lover, mark your calendars for Sunday, May 6th – it’s the fourth annual Oyster Invitational at B&G Oysters. From 1:00-6:00pm, chef Stephen Oxaal and his team will be joined by fellow aficionados for an all out oyster showdown. Shuckers and chefs from spots like Neptune Oysters, Hungry Mother, Summer Shack, Erbaluce, Uni, Oleana, O Ya, Citizen, The Gallows and Orinoco will be vying for best dish honors while farmers from Matunuck Oyster Farm, Salt Pond Oysters and Blue Island Shellfish show off their shucking skills in contests throughout the afternoon. There’ll be plenty of additional eats (hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries and fried calamari) for folks who’ve had their fill of bivalves, as well as beers from Harpoon and an assortment of oyster appropriate wines. Tickets, priced at $95 each, will get you in the door, two drink tickets and access to all the edible goodies. Additional drink tickets will be available for $5 each (or five for $20). Spring for a VIP Pearl ticket for $135 per person and you’ll get early admission to the pre-event reception, an extra drink ticket and an opportunity to mix and mingle with the chefs and oyster farmers. Not to be contained, the fun spreads across the street to sister restaurant and neighbor, The Butcher Shop, where they’ll be hosting Surf & Turf Smackdowns throughout the afternoon. Reserve a spot at 12:00, 1:30 or 3:00 for $40 per person to enjoy three rounds of small plates paired with wines. You’ll get to vote for your favorite and crown the winner. Tickets for the rain or shine shindig and the assorted Smackdowns all go on sale on Friday, April 6th at 11:00am so call 617.423.0550 before they’re all gone.
