Super Hunger Month Returns

This January, Super Hunger Month returns for its third successive year with the lofty goal of ending hunger in eastern Massachusetts. The Greater Boston Food Bank, in conjunction with event chairs chefs Jody Adams and Ming Tsai and Harpoon Brewery’s Liz Melby, will organize a thirty one day long fundraising extravaganza including the Super Hunger Online Auction, the Super Hunger Chef Challenge and the Super Hunger Brunch. Check below for details about each event, or go to the Greater Boston Food Bank website for the whole rundown and to make reservations, purchase tickets or start bidding.

Super Hunger Month Online Auction
Ending hunger is just a click away – from Sunday, January 17th through Sunday the 24th. Do your part by participating in the online auction. Local organizations and restaurants will be donating plenty of fun, culinarily themed packages just ripe for the bidding. Check back often to make sure you get what you want, and the Food Bank gets the funds to do more good.

Super Hunger Chef Challenge
On Thursday, January 21st a bevy of Boston’s finest epicurean minds will converge on the Four Seasons for the Super Hunger Chef Challenge. Recent winners of Food & Wine‘s Best New Chef award Gabriel Bremer of Salts and Mary Dumont of Harvest will battle it out to see whose cuisine is good enough to get them named Super Hunger Chef for 2010. Lumiere‘s Michael Leviton, Rialto‘s Jody Adams and restaurateur Barbara Lynch (all previous winners of the Food & Wine honor themselves) will have the difficult task of judging these talented culinarians while executive chef at the Four Seasons Brooke Vosika hosts. Guests will get to indulge in cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a full dinner while watching the heated kitchen action. Tickets to the event, which runs from 6:00 to 9:00pm, cost $200 per person and can be reserved online.

Super Hunger Brunch

What better way to end this charitable month than with a two day brunch-fest wherein over twenty participating area restaurants donate 100 percent of the proceeds from their special brunch menus to the Greater Boston Food Bank. On Saturday, January 30th and Sunday, January 31st restaurants like Bambara, Craigie on Main, The Fireplace, Rocca, Sibling Rivalry, Chez Henri, Grill 23 & Bar, Summer Shack, Rialto, Sel de la Terre, Tosca, Blue Ginger, L’Espalier and Café Fleuri will be putting out special prix fixe menus for $25, $35 or $50 to satisfy your appetite and soothe your soul.
