With summer well behind us, Wellfleet is gearing up for their fifth annual Oysterfest, scheduled for the weekend after Columbus Day, October 14th through Sunday, October 16th. Sponsored by SPAT (Shellfish Promotion and Tasting), the three day long event, which starts with a golf tournament on Friday, features local artisans, live music and plenty of freshly shucked oysters and clams from local shellfishermen. National environmental and marine organizations will also be around offering plenty of educational information on mollusks and marine conservation. Don’t miss the highlight of the festival, the Oyster Shuck-Off, where Annie Copps of Yankee Magazine will judge shuckers on speed and aesthetic presentation. Proceeds from the Oysterfest support the event and fund SPAT’s scholarship awards program, which helps promote learning about shellfishing.
