Now that the summer season has drawn to a close, the town of Wellfleet is gearing up for their annual Oysterfest. Scheduled for Friday, October 15th through Sunday, October 17th, the three day long event is an exceptional opportunity to sample plenty of briny, luscious Wellfleet oysters and celebrate the Cape’s wonderful arts community. Sponsored by SPAT (Shellfish Promotion and Tasting), Oysterfest will feature great food from area restaurants, live music, educational exhibits and, of course, plenty of fresh shucked oysters. Don’t miss the highlight of the festival, the Oyster Shuck-Off, in which chef Jody Adams of Rialto and her husband, writer Ken Rivard judge shuckers on speed and aesthetic presentation. Proceeds from the Oysterfest support the event and fund SPAT’s scholarship awards program, which helps promote learning about shellfishing.
