Trina’s Starlite Lounge – Director of Kitchen Operations/Assistant General Manager

Trina’s Starlite Lounge is seeking an Assistant General Manager, but just not any manager to join our family. This is a unique opportunity for a kitchen professional seeking to gain more “front-of-the-house”/general operational experience. We are seeking someone to lead by example and continue the incredible tradition. You would work directly with ownership and our General Manager, Rosa Ortiz, to uphold the elevated service, hospitality, and high quality food standards forged over the last 13 years.

Who we are:
Trina’s Starlite Lounge and Parlor Sports have been a cornerstone of the Cambridge/Somerville community for over a decade. Aside from the numerous awards over the years for our from-scratch food and drinks, we pride ourselves on being an all-inclusive, socially conscious neighborhood gathering place; the spot that you can celebrate, morn and just pop in daily. We are industry-vets with decades of experience, and are vocal proponents of equality in the workplace for women, undocumented workers, people of color, and the LGBTQIA community. We have been one of the industry-leaders in our effort to close the gap in the pay disparity between kitchen and service staff. Genuine hospitality, love, respect and hard-work make us who we are.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Someone eager to learn all aspects of the restaurant while leading a dedicated kitchen staff.
  • A pro.
  • A great listener.
  • A leader.
  • Someone who leads by doing not by saying.
  • Someone who isn’t limited to, but loves to cook.
  • Someone who is obsessed with making people smile.
  • Someone who can guide the ship, but not upset it.
  • Someone whose experience will shape the type of professional environment that they want to create for their ENTIRE staff.
  • We would prefer someone fluent in the Spanish language, but not required.

Essential Functions:

  • Kitchen scheduling.
  • Daily ordering.
  • Monitoring cost of food, quality and consistency through inventory and plate costing.
  • Leading a staff of incredible, dedicated cooks to insure a positive working environment that is based on positive reinforcement, appreciation and respect.
  • Floor manager-on-duty of both front and back of house. 3-4 days/nights per week.
  • Work directly with Executive Chef/Owner Suzi Maitland, and General Manager Rosa Ortiz, to achieve a great overall team effort of quality service, food and hospitality.
  • Knowledge and oversight of all state and local food safety procedures and policies for food handling.
  • Work directly with the service staff to ensure that they are knowledgeable of all allergies, ingredients and overall concept of dishes.
  • Being a proactive problem-solver, a good listener and assisting our staff to be the best they are capable of.

What’s in it for you:
Being a part of a growing company that puts the focus on its staff’s health, happiness, and well-being. Being shown appreciation for your hard work and dedication.

Compensation: Negotiated base salary does not include performance bonuses based on an annual review.

Pride: Be a part of a company that supports its diverse community, gives back and builds long-term relationships.

Employment Type(s): Full Time
Base Pay: $63,000/year
