The Rudder – Food Runners/Bussers

The Rudder, an iconic restaurant and bar since the 1950s, is seeking full-time and part-time Food Runners/Bussers for the 2024 season. Located in the Rocky Neck neighborhood of Gloucester, The Rudder has a decidedly neighborhood vibe that is warm and inviting. The restaurant also invites guests to visit us by boat and dine with us right on the water. Combining the fine food and attentive hospitality of Chef Barbara Lynch, The Rudder offers a rotating menu highlighting Gloucester’s local seafood and operates April-December each year (seasonal).

We are seeking passionate food runners and bussers who are attentive towards guests and who have a willingness to succeed in a hospitality driven restaurant.

Duties Include:

  • Clearing plates off tables 
  • Running food from the kitchen to tables
  • Polishing silverware and plate ware 
  • Refilling water glasses 
  • Working alongside servers
  • Memorizing seat numbers and table numbers 


  • Qualified applicants will have a friendly and approachable demeanor, be hard working and efficient and have a passion for hospitality
  • Quality food & beverage experience in an upscale dining environment is required
  • Willingness to grow and exceed expectations
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Passion for taking care of and serving others 

This is an opportunity to work for a well-renowned restaurant collective that encourages internal growth and promotes from within; you will hone your skills with a management team working directly under Chef Barbara. Applicants should possess a strong desire to further their careers and demonstrate good leadership skills. Candidates should share a passion for ingredients, technique, discipline and hospitality.
