Shy Bird, South Boston – Service Manager

Shy Bird is looking for another member of the management team for our new second location in South Boston! We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with craveable, affordable food that celebrates the familiar while conveying genuine culinary ambition and passion. Conveniently located on the Red Line between Andrew and Broadway Station, the new Shy Bird location is part of the Iron Works development, an exciting new destination in South Boston that is bringing residential, retail, office, fitness and outdoor amenity spaces into one incredible community.

Purpose of position:

Shy Bird is seeking a Service Manager to join the Operations Leadership team. This manager, like Shy Bird, is multi-faceted and dynamic. By day, you could be supporting the service team by taking orders, running food, or packing to-go orders. At night, you may be overseeing a trainee, chatting with a regular, or opening a bottle of wine for a busy server. You will bring to life service standards, guest relations, takeout operations and elements of catering.

The description below is for a Service Manager, but everyone works side-by-side at Shy Bird. We believe in cross-training for all positions. Chefs run food and bus tables. Service team does dishes. Bartenders seat guests and stock plates. We all run chicken.

Responsibilities:

  • Write a weekly schedule for front of house staff
  • Oversee training and onboarding for new front of the house team members
  • Support continuing education and development for the Shy Bird Team
  • Seek meaningful connection with guests in a fast-paced environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all food menus
  • Comprehensive knowledge of coffee, wine by the glass, beer and cocktails
  • Oversight of beer and spirits program, in partnership with the Lead Bartender
  • Opening and closing restaurant responsibilities, in line with operational standards
  • Connectivity with the Back of House Team on culinary operations
  • Contribute to Shy Bird brand engagement through social media and other platforms
