Pennypacker’s restaurant, food truck and catering business is expanding and seeking a full time sous chef. This job will be to handle the majority of the functions at their small Somerville location, as well as their catering and truck business that operate out of that location.
This position will be working hand in hand with the owner/executive chef, to eventually take over management of this location, once the new location opens this fall. The person for this role must be able to run the kitchen on their own within a few months.
Candidates should have an understanding of costing, inventory, ordering, menu organization, staff management, and a few years of relevant experience. This position is very hands on, you will be cooking, working and cleaning along side the staff every day.
This job will require a flexible schedule, as catering/food truck operation varies week by week. It is largely weekday mornings and afternoons, but there will be some night and weekend shifts. A wide knowledge of food is needed, as the menus cover a large range of items. This position will have input and involvement on menu creation, as well. There is also a need for good customer service and the ability to handle front of the house aspects, as all employees cover every job.
The position requires an ability to lift at least 50lbs and a ServSafe and allergy certificate are preferred, but can always be obtained later. The job requires a drivers license, as many jobs are off site.
